Let flowers speak
Flowers greet us on the kitchen table, smile from windows, tell us about celebrations and people who have thought of us. They add color to our lives and can even act as little interpreters to help us convey our feelings. Floriography is the art of conveying messages through flowers. Did you know that a yellow chrysanthemum symbolizes “hurt love”, while a freesia stands for “lasting friendship”?
Many guests tell us that they like to decorate their holiday apartment with fresh flowers. In our new article for the Lübeck ZWISCHENZEILEN I take you on a floral journey through Lübeck and introduce you to seven special flower shops that inspire me with their variety and creativity. After all, you don’t need a special occasion to bring a smile to yourself or a loved one with a creatively arranged bouquet or a single rose.
“Be Like the violet in the moss: modest, gentle, and shy.
Not like the rose, so proud and bright,
that longs for every eye.”Entry in my poetry album, 1970

Blumenhaus Gutjahr
You will find Blumenhaus Gutjahr on the edge of the Old Town island at Kronsforder Allee 19A. Owner Jessica Wendt describes herself as a passionate florist. She specializes in floral arrangements for weddings. But even if you’re not planning to tie the knot, I recommend a visit to Gutjahr. Especially because of the individual advice. Jessica is a master of her craft, which requires creativity, a flair for shapes and colors, but also technical skill. She believes that people who work with flowers need, above all, a good eye for harmony. And a feeling for which flowers complement each other, which colours have a strengthening or calming effect and which structures bring tension to an arrangement.

Blumenland

Elke Erdmann awaits me at Pfaffenstraße 6 in her flower country. They don’t just tie bouquets here, I get the impression that they capture moods and create small works of art. I also like Blumenland because it combines lush green tones, soft pastel colors and earthy accents in a harmonious way. While waiting for my spring bouquet, I enjoy the dark, wine-red background, which gives the room a luxurious atmosphere. Mirrors with Gothic window elements reflect the light and stylishly set the scene for the flowers. Here it becomes clear how much a harmonious ambiance can emphasize the beauty of the plants.

Die florale werkstatt

The Florale Werkstatt at Hüxstraße 98 is more of a concept store than a traditional flower store. In addition to plants and cut flowers, the focus is on floral installations. The selection is truly extraordinary. For Martina Dummann and Katrin Gollan, flowers are indispensable accessories for the living space that surrounds us everywhere. The owners are concerned with a conscious experience and a sense of beauty that lasts beyond the moment. A floral installation can add lightness to a room, making it appear warmer, livelier or more playful. Flowers and branches create an atmosphere that is not intrusive, but is still perceptible. It’s almost as if nature is reclaiming a place in everyday life – sometimes orderly and elegant, sometimes wild and informal.

Florales

Florales at Hüxtertorallee 5 is the colourful stage of Wiebke Gill. Here I learn that bouquets with wild flowers and lots of greenery are currently in vogue. Pastel colours and harmonious compositions that bring calm to everyday life are also in demand. In addition to lovingly arranged bouquets, the focus is on the creative design of stages and events. Florales also lends a special atmosphere to the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival with artfully crafted floral decorations.

Huch Blumen & Interieur

Huch Blumen & Interieur can be found at Hüxstraße 96. The store is a small oasis for the senses. As soon as you enter, the scent of fresh earth mingles with the delicate aroma of blooming roses. Artfully bound bouquets await their new owners on wooden tables. Alexandra Huch knows how to artfully stage her rooms. She combines floral opulence with a touch of playful fantasy. The bright white walls and soft lighting accents create an airy atmosphere. This allows the beautiful creations and lovingly arranged decorative elements to unfold their full effect. The room currently shines in a pre-Easter blaze of colour.

Kranzgenau

I have already had a look at Kranzgenau for an article about the Beckergrube. The owners, Hannah Sonntag and Sina Fischer , put a lot of effort into their store at Beckergrube 59-61 with dried flowers with a conscious focus on sustainability. Over 120 different dried flowers are on offer. They are experiencing a real comeback – and quite rightly so. Their soft, earthy colours, fine textures and timeless elegance make them a real eye-catcher. Where fresh flowers fade after a few days, dried flowers last for months, sometimes even years – a touch of eternity, captured in delicate grasses, fragrant lavender and feathery pampas fronds. The trend reflects the desire for sustainability and longevity, but also the longing for naturalness and a touch of vintage romance. Fancy getting creative yourself? Then I recommend booking a place on one of the workshops.

Waltz of the Flowers

Waltz of the Flowers at Beckergrube 29 also offers dried flowers. Whether as a loosely tied bouquet, as an artistic wall decoration or in combination with fresh flowers – dried flowers lend every room a warm, poetic atmosphere. All compositions are handmade. The owner Irina Udzilauri has made her life’s dream come true and turned her hobby into her profession. It goes without saying that she always caters to the individual wishes of her customers when designing the bouquets. It can also be quite unconventional. Perhaps you would like to take one of the bells or a glass jar in which dried flowers are arranged?
