Liubeka

My absolute favorite figure is located above the door on the north wall of the town hall, opposite St. Mary's Church. I like her because one of my favorite quotes rings true here: you only see what you know. How many people stand in front of this door every day and don't notice Liubeka?
She was created at the end of the 19th century. An allegory of the city, voluptuously sculpted, she confidently wears the Holsten Gate on her head, even though part of her nose is missing. It's the emblem of the German Association of Cities. You can also recognize it by the city key in her hand.
Opposite her sits Mercury , the god of thieves, tricks, and commerce, whom you've also encountered on the Puppet Bridge.

Where?

Do you ever get that feeling? You walk past an inscription, a sculpture, or a plaque and you just have to stop and find out what it's all about? That's how it is for me. ALWAYS! "One only sees what one already knows and understands." I couldn't agree more with Goethe on that point. That's precisely why I never want to stop discovering the seemingly insignificant, recognizing connections, learning new things, and getting to the bottom of people and their stories. Okay, and writing overly long sentences... And learning new languages, of course...

Don't miss a thing.
