As only one of eight international memorial plaques of its kind, the monument in the "Parade" between the Zeughaus (armory) and the House of Cultures in Lübeck's city center commemorates the homosexuals persecuted and deported In Lübeck, on January 23, 1937, a total of 230 gay men were arrested, tortured, and sentenced in the Zeughaus; some were deported to concentration camps. The cast-iron memorial plaque, created by Erich Lethgau, was unveiled in 2016 and has since served as a reminder of the Nazis' cruel treatment of people of different sexual orientations .
