The relief of the fighter was created in 1930 by the sculptor Otto Mantel . The original is located in the St. Anne's Museum. The term "fighter" refers to the stone protruding from the wall that supports the arch.
Here you see the so-called Strebkatzenziehen " (a game involving pulling one's beard). You can see two merchants trying to pull each other over an open flame using the strength of their necks, with an iron bar held in their mouths as a bite bar. The idea was to "cut off the beard." Strebkatzenziehen was a popular folk sport, a precursor to tug-of-war, and a form of amusement similar to finger wrestling.
