At 82 Breite Str. you will find a memorial plaque designed by the visual artist Herbert Müller-Fried.
Since 1975 it has been located on the north side of the chancery building of Lübeck’s Town Hall.
The inscription was an invitation to each and everyone of us to strive for the reunification of Germany, which was divided until November 9, 1989.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification, which was solemnly celebrated with a ceremony in Berlin on October 3, 1990, and in which most people had no longer believed, this sentence was added in 1994:“The goal has been achieved.” Such a simple statement about an event of world historical significance.
