The advocates’ relief

Being right and being proved right are two different things

The relief was made in 1930 by the sculptor Otto Mantel. The original is kept at the St. Annen Museum.

It shows two dogs fighting over a bone. On the right and left they are flanked by a fool, who is thievishly pleased, and an advocate with colored glasses. Symbol that the latter should “arbitrate without regard to the person”. “So the dog medden Knaken, so de Düwel med Advokaten“.
