The mysterious “T

In the idyllic quarter around St. Gille’s church, you almost feel like you’re in a small village. It was the district where craftsmen and farmers had their homes.
Have you noticed the plain white tombstone on the outside of the church wall adorned with a “T”?
The “T” stands for the Low German epithet of St. Aegidien: Tilgenkark.
This name refers to the patron saint of the church of St. Tilgen, as Aegidius of St. Gilles was also called.
He was one of the 14 emergency helpers. Nursing mothers and people in spiritual need and abandonment turned to him.
